Flare & Relief Process Engineer will be responsible for process engineering evaluation and design of flare & relief systems for all TCO operations.

Duties will include reviewing existing pressure relief systems following the TCO Process Engineering Flare & Relief review schedule, responding to ad-hoc requests for review of pressure relief devices and design or re-design of new or existing pressure relief systems.

The position focuses on the use of the iPRSM software tool for evaluation and management of pressure relief systems.

The position will develop and follow a schedule for review and analysis of pressure relief systems, making recommendations to applicable TCO departments including Production Operations, Designs Engineering, Process Safety and others.

Close cooperation with other departments and groups is essential.

The position will provide input to assist with defining Turnaround work scope applicable to flare & relief systems and provide technical support for reporting of flared volumes.

The position will keep the iPRSM System of Record updated with 3rd party vendor documentation.

The Flare & Relief Process Engineer is required to become proficient in the use of iPRSM, general pressure relief calculations methods and develop an expert understanding of applicable Flare & Relief guidelines and industry specifications such as API 521 and applicable TCO specifications.

Evaluation of Acoustic Induced Vibration (AIV), use of Flarenet software and evaluation of blowdown systems may be required periodically.

The position is expected to work independently while reporting to the Shared Services Process Engineering Supervisor and following priorities as laid out in the TCO Flare & Relief update plan and Turnaround schedule.

The position requires knowledge of steady state process simulation (for example Hysys), interpretation of engineering documentation such as P&IDs, datasheets and isometric drawings, understanding of the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) process and basic understanding of process safety concepts such as Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) and IPL (Independent Protection Layer).

Higher Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemical Technology of Organic Substances.

Relevant work experience - not less than 2 years.

Good knowledge of at least one operating unit in TCO, or process engineering experience in a related industry such as petroleum refining or upstream crude oil production.

Demonstrated process engineering experience in any of the following: troubleshooting, optimization, simulation and modeling, process safety related calculations (PSV sizing, process safety times).

General experience in various process engineering software such as Aspentech Hysys.

Advanced user of Microsoft Excel. Skilled user of MS Word and PowerPoint.

Understanding of the basis of operation of various process equipment and their internal parts. Familiarity with unit equipment sizing/specification. Skill in reading and developing various technical documentations and drawings.

Successful candidate must be able to dialogue frequently between multiple work groups and disciplines.

Good communication skills (verbal, written, listening).
