- Align the Cardiff University Kazakhstan campus activities with the University's strategy, mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
- Provide strategic leadership on all matters related to academic programmes, research and innovation, teaching and learning, teaching excellence and student experience, including pastoral support, across CU Kazakhstan.
- Ensure the implementation of robust academic policies and procedures, which are aligned with those of Cardiff University and meet the requirements of regulations in Kazakhstan.
- Oversee and take responsibility for all aspects of the student experience.
- Oversee the academic aspects of student admissions, progression and graduation.
- Ensure that academic programmes are innovative, relevant, and responsive to the needs of students and the community, and through consultation with the Pro Vice-Chancellors and Heads of College of Cardiff University, overseeing their design, development and assessment.
- Support the integration of research and scholarship into teaching and learning, ensuring continuous enhancement across all activities.
- Implement and maintain robust quality assurance processes to monitor and enhance academic standards and quality which are aligned with the requirements of Cardiff University.
- Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of high-quality academic staff, and promote professional development and training opportunities for faculty.
- Primary responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of students.
- Chair the relevant academic and governance committees of CU Kazakhstan and provide regular performance reports and required assurances to the Cardiff University Executive Board, Senate and Council as required.
- Manage the University’s relationship with its partner, QCEF.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including government bodies, industry partners, accrediting bodies, and educational organizations.
- Work in partnership with Cardiff University and QCEF on the development of the Cardiff University Kazakhstan campus, and the utilisation of the facilities, ensuring that these provide and excellent research and education experience.
- Lead CU Kazakhstan's efforts in accreditation and external reviews.
- Manage the academic budget and allocate resources to support academic priorities.
- Represent the University in academic networks and partnerships locally and globally.
- Promote Cardiff University Kazakhstan’s academic achievements and contributions.

The Provost will provide strategic leadership and direction for the educational and academic functions of CU Kazakhstan. This role oversees all elements of academic activity in Kazakhstan, including research and innovation, academic standards, curriculum development, quality assurance, pedagogy, teaching and learning, and enhancing the student experience.

Functionally reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor Prof Wendy Larner, the successful candidate will have an outstanding academic and/or senior professional management record and will possess exceptional leadership capabilities alongside a track record of successful strategic delivery. They will have the personal authority, presence and expertise to oversee the delivery of excellent education and student experience and represent the University and effectively further its interests.
- Education and Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant academic discipline or professional experience in a similar role.

- Extensive experience in academic leadership, at a senior level, within universities in the UK or overseas.
- Experience in managing and delivering high-quality Transnational Education (TNE) programmes across diverse contexts and countries.
- Sophisticated understanding of the role of universities in regional and national development.
- Significant international higher education experience.
- A strong track record of academic achievement and research.
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, quality assurance, and academic policy.
- Proven ability to manage complex academic programs and initiatives.
- Ability to contribute to institutional policy development.

We are seeking to appoint our first Provost for Cardiff University Kazakhstan, to be based full-time at our new campus in Astana.

The role is full time, open-ended and available as soon as is practicable. The post is based in Astana, Kazakhstan, with occasional travel to the UK required. The postholder will be employed by Cardiff University Kazakhstan. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with the responsibilities of the role.

As Chair of the Management Board, the Provost reports directly to the General Meeting of Participants of the Limited Liability Partnership “Cardiff University Kazakhstan” and operates under the oversight of the Supervisory Board, acting in accordance with the Charter and internal regulations of the Partnership. Functionally, the post holder also reports to the President of Cardiff University (United Kingdom) with respect to the implementation of academic strategy and compliance with the corporate standards of Cardiff University.

The Provost will work closely with key colleagues in Cardiff, particularly: the Pro Vice Chancellor Education and Student Experience; Pro Vice Chancellor Research, Innovation and Enterprise; College Pro Vice Chancellors and Chief Operating Officer and senior colleagues in Astana. The post is based in Astana, Kazakhstan, with occasional travel to the UK required.
